A NEW DREAM
January 11, 2024
AND YOU WILL SEEK ME AND FIND ME, WHEN YOU SEARCH FOR ME WITH ALL YOUR HEART. (JEREMIAH 29:13, NKJV)
I was 15 years old and in my first year of high school.
I dreamed of making a difference with my life.
But I didn’t want to do ministry at all but something else. God’s presence captured my heart at a youth camp - when I was out of my regular pace, place and God was about to give me a new perspective. That week in 1993, something changed on the inside. The pace I had grown accustomed to, even as a teenager - -all of that changed.
I returned from that camp andI prayed, “God, whatever you want me to do with my life, I want to do it.”
I developed a discipline of reading God’s word and praying. Telling others about Jesus and got involved in my church in a different way. I was engaged.
At the end of that summer, I knew I was supposed to make a difference for God with my life. I began to worship God from the piano I had learned how to play as a kid and I got down on my knees and started praying. Suddenly, the presence of God came into my life tangibly and powerfully.
I knew when I left that summer, I could never just be a musician or live a normal again. I’ll always be a worshiper, but I couldn’t be just a player.
God had called me to preach the Word and lead worship. What an honor. What a God birthed dream.
A change of pace and a change of place had given me a change of perspective about who I was in God and what He was calling me to do. I’ll never forget that summer with Jesus.
What will it take for you to encounter God in this season?
